ABOUT INCLUSIVE ETHIOPIA
A disability-led movement for full participation.
Inclusive Ethiopia is a non-governmental, not-for-profit, membership-based Ethiopian civil society organisation advancing the rights, inclusion, accessibility, participation, and empowerment of persons with disabilities.
OUR JOURNEY
Rooted in lived experience. Focused on inclusive futures.
Inclusive Ethiopia was founded in 2010 by 27 mobility-challenged persons as the Voluntary Association of Mobility Challenged People in Addis Ababa (VAMCPAA), working to reduce mobility-related barriers and build a more accessible environment for persons with disabilities.
In February 2017, the organisation transformed into a civil society organisation under the name Disability Development Initiatives (DDI), expanding into accessibility assessments of 231 elementary schools in Addis Ababa and a long-running collaboration with Addis Ababa University's Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development (EiABC) to train graduating architects in accessible design.
The organisation was subsequently re-registered by the Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) as an Ethiopian Development Organization (Certificate No. 2065), and in 2023 adopted the name Inclusive Ethiopia to reflect its broader mandate and strategic direction.
